Singapore office.
Govind Asokan
is a Senior Partner of the Firm and was the
Head of the Shipping Practice Group in Rodyk &
Davidson LLP before joining Joseph Tan Jude
Benny LLP. His areas of practice include
commercial and shipping litigation,
arbitration, insurance, tax, banking, domestic
and international business transactions.
Widely regarded as a leader in Admiralty and
Shipping Law, Govind has published numerous
papers on diverse topics such as marine
insurance fraud, Powers of Arbitrators, Oil
Pollutions, Banking Secrecy, Product Liability
and tax benefits of Singapore-registered
vessels.
Govind is a
Fellow of the Singapore Institute of
Arbitrators and of the UK Chartered Institute
of Arbitrators. He is a Member of the
Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC)
Main Panel of Arbitrators, APRAG (Asia-Pacific
Regional Arbitration Grouping) Panel of
Arbitrators, SCMA (Singapore Chamber of
Maritime Arbitration) panel of arbitrators,
the Panel of Arbitrators of the Korean
Commercial Arbitration Board (K.C.A.B.) under
the Arbitration Act of Korea and Article 4 of
the Arbitration Rules of the K.C.A.B., the
Singapore Shipping Association (SSA)’s Legal &
Insurance Sub-Committees and the Maritime Law
Association of Singapore.
Govind
graduated with an LLB (Hons) degree from the
National University of Singapore in 1978 and
earned an LLM with Distinctions in Carriage of
Goods by Sea and Admiralty Law from the
University of Southampton in 1985. He was
admitted to the Singapore Bar in 1979 and is
also a Solicitor of England & Wales as of
2003.
Lam Kuet Keng Steven
John
joined M/s Joseph Tan Jude Benny LLP in
June 2009 as a partner, specialising in
contentious and non-contentious reinsurance,
insurance, international trade, oil and gas
and shipping related matters. Before this, he
was a senior lawyer in an international law
firm handing complex corporate matters and
international commercial arbitrations (in
various parts of the world, from New York,
London, Middle East, China and other parts of
South East Asia) relating to international
trade and insurance disputes and cross-borders
mergers and acquisitions. At the time of
joining this firm, Steven was involved in
various international arbitrations involving
shipping, commercial and insurance matters.
Having
graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (2nd
Upper Class) in 1994, Steven obtained his
first Masters of Laws in 2000, specialising in
International Trade and Taxation and Corporate
Insolvency/ Restructuring, followed by a
subsequent Masters in 2003, specialising in
International Commercial Law and Shipping Law.
Currently, he is a Fellow of London’s
Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and
Singapore Institute of Arbitrators and an
Associate of the Singapore Institute of
Taxation.
JTJB also welcomes 2 associates who are newly
called to the Bar,
Ms. Pey Yin Jie
and
Mr. Sivarajan.
Both Yin Jie and Siva are former pupils who
have successfully completed their pupilage and
Postgraduate Law Course, and have just been
called to the bar. Yin Jie and Siva will join
the Litigation department as Associates, and
will no doubt add to the energy and enthusiasm
of legal practice here at JTJB. |
