JTJB's 20TH ANNIVERSARY GALA EVENING
 


 

JTJB celebrated an important milestone by turning 20 on the 1st of February, at the Conrad International Centennial Hotel, Singapore. This celebration was graced aptly by the Guest of Honour Mrs. Lim Hwee Hwa, Minister of State for Transport and Finance.  Guests steamed in at about 6.30pm for pre-dinner cocktails, followed by a four-course dinner spread, which was accompanied by the fine music of The JM Jazz Quartet.

JTJB Bangkok welcomes its new Director, Ms. Noppramart Thammateeradaycho. Noppamart is a graduate of Thammasat University, as well as a holder of two Masters of Law Degree, one in Electronic Law from University of Melbourne, and another in Commercial Law from Deakin University.

JTJB is once again proud to have been part of the Singapore delegation participating in the Nor Shipping exhibition in Oslo, held on 12 - 15 June 2007.  The delegation was headed by Minister of State for Finance and Transport, Mrs. Lim Hwee Hwa.  JTJB, represented by Dato' Jude Benny and Danny Chua, was part of the Singapore pavilion which showcased the strength and depth of the Singapore Maritime Industry, and included companies such as Keppel Shipyard, Sembcorp Marine, Tru Marine, ST Marine, Eurasia Shipmanagement and Sinwa Limited.

JTJB WRITES THE ADMIRALTY PRACTICE CHAPTER OF
ATKINS COURT FORMS SINGAPORE

 

 

The first ever Admiralty Practice Chapter XLVII of the Singapore Version of the Atkins Court Forms will be launched in September 2007.  This is the 1st Edition of the Admiralty Practice Chapter in Atkins Court Forms Singapore.  Co-written by Managing Partner Dato' Jude P Benny, Senior Partner Danny Chua, and two Associates Mr John Sze and Ms Sue Ann Gan, this will cover a comprehensive set of maritime law and precedents.
 


THE 2ND ANNUAL MARITIME LAW & PRACTICE CONFERENCE

JTJB AT SEA ASIA EXHIBITION
 

The first SeaAsia Exhibition, held in April this year at the Suntec City Convention Centre, saw a strong showing by JTJB.   As part of the "Singapore Pavalion", the JTJB stand was the only one in the entire exhibition providing maritime legal services.
 


CAPITALISING ON SHIP FINANCING EXPERTISE
 

Quay Capital and JTJB jointly organised a ship finance seminar in Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok on 20th and 22nd March 2007. Capitalising on their respective expertise, Quay Capital presented a paper on creative financing methods and JTJB touched on aspects of lease charters and ship registration.

The JTJB Network Offices from the Far East, made a presentations to the London Maritime Industry in March, at the famous Baltic Exchange.


 

JTJB BANGKOK OFFICE MOVES TO NEW PREMISES
 




 

After the official launch of JTJB’s Bangkok office in September, 2005, the office has grown extensively in the past year. This led to the need of expansion of our capacity to serve clients better. Our plan is to increase our capacity in both the size of our office and the manpower.

After considerable search for new premises, we are now pleased to announce that JTJB’s Bangkok office has moved and is now fully operational at CMIC Tower, located on Sukhumvit 21 (Asoke) Road, one of Bangkok’s financial districts. 


JTJB TO TAKE INTERNS FROM JAPANESE LAW SCHOOL

JTJB and Doshisha University of Kyoto, Japan, have reached agreement by which law students from the highly acclaimed university will have the option of attending an internship program at the firm's Singapore head office.

 

Dato' Jude P Benny kicked off the program by delivering a lecture to the law students on "Contractual Interpretation" on 29th June 2006, at the Kyoto Campus. The lecture was well received by the students.

Later in the day, Professor Koji Takahasi and Dato' Benny sealed the agreement, which will see the first student(s) arriving in Singapore in September this year.

Dato Benny described the move as a "long term investment" creating goodwill and contacts between the firm and a "new generation of Japanese lawyers, compelled to   play in the international arena". "It will also be a culturally very enlightening experience for all of us in the Singapore office".
 


The JTJB team comprising Dato' Jude P. Benny, Danny Chua and Alan Lim participated in this year's POSIDONIA 2006 International Shipping Exhibition, as part of the Singapore Pavilion.
 

Held once every two years, Posidonia is the largest shipping event in the global maritime calendar. The exhibition which this year spans an area of 26,500 square metres, a new Posidonia record as the exhibition has increased its size by 15% compared to the 2004 edition.

More than 1,600 exhibitors from 80 countries and territories participated at Posidonia 2006, which attracted 16,000 trade visitors until the event’s final day on June 9th. 

An unprecedented 37 Singaporean shipping companies participated under the Singapore Pavilion, supported by The Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF), Association of Singapore Marine Industries (ASMI) & the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). Mrs Lim Hwee Hua (Singapore's Minister of State for Finance and Transport), Dato' Jude Benny and the other SMF directors' led the Singapore delegation.

Arguably the most successful international shipping exhibition ever, this event will accelerate the growth of JTJB and it's Global Network of Offices into the international maritime community, and their long standing relationship with the Greek shipping community.

IBIA/JTJB Joint Seminar

Managing Risks in the Bunkering Business
International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) and JTJB International Lawyers Co., Ltd (JTJB) jointly conducted a seminar entitled "Managing Risks in the Bunkering Business" at Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok on 8th March 2006. The Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA) was invited to participate in the seminar. With all 3 parties speaking on their respective areas of expertise, the event offered informative technical and legal advice to Thailand and regional companies in the bunkering industry.

Rounding off the seminar, guests were invited to a sumptuous buffet lunch, where both guests and speakers mingled and continued their discussion on the management of risks in the bunkering business.

Dato' Benny appointed to Board of MPA

The Minister for Transport has appointed Senior Partner, Dato' Jude P Benny to the Board of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), with effect from the 2nd of February 2006. The MPA, which is a Statutory Board, is charged with the responsibility of regulating maritime affairs in Singapore, and is also the champion agency, leading the drive to keep Singapore in the forefront as an international Maritime Center.

Nor Shipping 2005 in Oslo Norway

The JTJB team comprising Dato' Jude P. Benny, Danny Chua and John Sze participated in this year's Nor Shipping Exhibition, as part of the Singapore Stand.

An unprecedented 16 companies participated from Singapore, and the delegation was led by The Minister of State for Trade & Industry and Transport, Mrs Lim Hwee Hua.

The well attended Exhibition was an excellent opportunity for JTJB to showcase their Global Network of Offices, to the maritime community, and   their long standing relationship with the Nordic market.



Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA)

The Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration was official launched in November 2004 by the Minister of State for Finance & Transport, Mrs Lim Hwee Hwa.

The launch culminates six months of intense work by The Singapore Maritime Foundations Working Group an Arbitration, Chaired by the firm's Senior Partner, Dato' Jude P. Benny.

Dato' Benny now chairs the Advisory Committee of the newly created Arbitration Chamber.
