 SINGAPORE MARITIME WEEK

SEA ASIA 2015

Driven by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the Singapore Maritime Week gathers international maritime community in Singapore for a week of conferences, dialogues, exhibitions and social events.

The Sea Asia Conference is the centerpiece of Maritime Week. The Conference is known as the region’s leading Shipping and Maritime Conference as well as one of the most anticipated maritime events in Asia. The 2015 Conference, which marked the 5th edition of Sea Asia, was held at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre from 21st to 23rd April 2015.

It hosted more than 14 000 people from over 60 countries and brought together leaders of the maritime and offshore industries to discuss, debate and analyse challenges and opportunities facing the sector. The Opening Ceremony was graced by Singapore’s Minister for Transport and 2nd Minister for Defence, Mr Liu Tuck Yew.

JTJB was naturally very involved with Maritime Week and Sea Asia. Together with the Port of Singapore Authority, JTJB sponsored the Sea Asia Conference Speakers’ Dinner held at the Oceans Gallery, Sentosa on 20th April 2015.

This exclusive dinner, held before the official commencement of the Sea Asia Conference and Exhibition, gathered conference speakers, exhibitors and VIP guests. Seatrade’s Chairman, Chris Hayman and JTJB’s Managing Partner, K Murali Pany, delivered the welcome addresses.

At the Sea Asia Conference itself, JTJB’s Senior Partner, Dato’ Jude P Benny, participated in a panel discussion on the topic, “Navigating Challenges: The Way Forward” and spoke about “Maritime Arbitration: The Tilt to Asia and Potential Issues”.

9th INTERNATIONAL CHEMICAL AND OIL POLLUTION CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION

The International Chemical and Oil Pollution Conference and Exhibition (ICOPCE) 2015 was organized by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) as part of Maritime Week.

It brought together stakeholders and provided a platform for the discussion and development of next generation strategies to help manage rapidly evolving risks.

JTJB’s Deputy Managing Partner, John Sze, chaired the conference and participated in a panel discussion on the topic, “Claims, Compensation and Cost Recovery”.

Other panelists were representatives from MPA, International Tanker Owners Pollution Federation and Charles Taylor Mutual Management (Asia).

The panel explored the various liability and compensation limits, steps in dealing with claims, the process adopted for recent cases in Singapore and Asia as well as assessment and compensation issues.

The Muntigunung Community Social Enterprise distributes a wide range of high quality products that originate from and processed in the remote area of Muntigunung, northeast Bali. Production and processing by local villagers is supported and coordinated by the Muntigunung Development and Livelihood Program implemented in 2006 by the Future for Children Foundation.

All activities endeavor to create employment opportunities and economic prospects for the poor families living in the villages. Revenues from sales of these products are fully reinvested into the development of other income generating activities in the villages within the Muntigunung area.

JTJB’s latest range of corporate gifts includes Multigunung products in support of this good cause. In addition, in conjunction with the annual ADVOC Business Law Conference to be held in Bali this year, JTJB has invited Mr. Daniel Elber, Founder of the Future of Children Foundation, to give a presentation on the Foundation and its work.
